About Justice Scott Field
Justice Scott Field serves on the newly created Fifteenth Court of Appeals, appointed by Governor Greg Abbott for a term beginning September 1, 2024. Before this appointment, he served as the inaugural judge of the 480th Judicial District Court in Williamson County.
Justice Field brings deep experience in both trial and appellate courts. He previously served a six-year term on the Third Court of Appeals in Austin, where he was consistently ranked among the most productive justices in Texas. Prior to his judicial service, he was a partner at a law firm and practiced extensively in appellate advocacy and commercial litigation. His private practice career also included time at major firms, co-founding his own firms, and representing clients in complex commercial disputes, insurance litigation, and ERISA matters.
Justice Field began his legal career as a law clerk for Justice Raul Gonzalez on the Texas Supreme Court. He earned his undergraduate degree in political science from Texas A&M University, graduating summa cum laude, and his law degree with honors from the University of Texas School of Law, where he was named to the Order of the Coif.
He is a Life Fellow of both the Texas Bar Foundation and the Austin Bar Foundation, and he previously served on the board of directors for the Texas Aggie Bar Association. Justice Field is also a member of the Federalist Society, the Texas Supreme Court Historical Society, and several bar associations. He actively mentors young attorneys through the UT Law Mentoring Program and remains involved in legal education through continuing legal education presentations.
A native Texan, Justice Field was born in Houston and raised near College Station. He lives in Liberty Hill with his wife, Melinda. They have three grown children.

During his six-year term on the Third Court of Appeals, he consistently ranked among the top five most productive appellate justices in Texas—writing clear, well-reasoned opinions that helped shape Texas law.
Before returning to the bench, he practiced at the highest levels of trial and appellate law, representing individuals, businesses, and state entities in complex litigation. His experience spans private practice, judicial service, and public law, making him one of Texas’s most well-rounded appellate judges.
Whether on the bench or in the courtroom, Justice Field’s work has always been defined by preparation, precision, and a deep respect for the legal process.

As a judge, I believe in applying the law as written—not rewriting it to fit personal views or political outcomes. The Constitution, statutes, and precedents are the foundation of our legal system. It’s my job to interpret and apply them fairly and consistently.

About the Fifteenth Court of Appeals

The Fifteenth Court of Appeals is a statewide appellate court based in Austin. Unlike Texas’s regional appellate courts, the Fifteenth Court was created to handle:
- Appeals involving state government and its agencies
- Constitutional and statutory challenges to Texas laws
- Cases of exceptional statewide importance
- Appeals from the newly established Texas Business Courts
These cases often involve complex legal questions that affect how laws are applied throughout the state.
Justice Scott Field brings decades of appellate and trial experience to this important bench. His career has spanned every level of the legal system—from clerkship at the Texas Supreme Court to commercial litigation to high-level judicial service. On the Fifteenth Court, he works to ensure Texans receive clear, principled decisions that respect the law and the role of the judiciary.
